Pekanbaru Kota Bertuah
Pekanbaru is the capital city of the Riau
province of Sumatra. The economy was originally built on coffee and coal but
now relies on oil. The Riau Province produces half of the crude oil for all
of Indonesia, 650,000 barrels per year. Pekanbaru is a large, busy, modern city. The Siak river
runs past Pekanbaru.
The Grand Mosque dates back to the 18th century holding the graves of the fourth and fifth Sultans of Siak. This is one of the finest mosques in all of Indonesia.
On the main road of Pekanbaru, Jl. Sudirman there is the Museum Negeri Riau with an interesting collection of cultural artifacts from the Riau province.
There is free WiFi wireless Hotspot Internet access at Le Gossip Cafe on the ground floor of the Mal Pekanbaru shopping plaza and they serve Bintang and Heineken beer there as well.
Shopping
There are lots of large, modern shopping centres throughout Pekanbaru including Citra Plaza on Jl. Tambusai, Ciputra Mall on Jl. Riau, Pekanbaru Mall on Jl. Sudirman and SKA Mall on Jl. Soekarno Hatta
Money changers
There are plenty of ATM machines to withdrawer money. Even though there seems to be a different bank every 20 meters down the main road of Pekanbaru none of them do foreign exchange. There is a small money changer a few doors down from Bank Mandiri on Jl. Sudriman close to the overhead walkway crossing the street.

Golf in Pekanbaru
There are several golf courses close to Pekanbaru:
Labersa Golf Course is not far from the centre of Pekanbaru. Day packages can be arranged at the Aryaduta Hotel from 1,034,000Rp per person. See link for hotel below.
Rumbai Golf Course Ph: (061) 519 769 located in Rumbai, a sub-province of Pekanbaru.
The Simpang Tiga Golf Course is about 70Km from the centre of Pekanbaru.
Food in Pekanbaru
Check out Vanhollano Bakery on Jl. Sudirman 153. Start of with one of their small chicken or beef burgers for 9500Rp and finish off with one of their cakes, pastries or some ice-cream.

Kisah Inspiratif
Panjang Tangan dan Sedekah
Dalam suatu riwayat Aisyah pernah berkisah, bahwa suatu waktu
setelah kematian Nabi SAW, para istrinya berkumpul pada suatu rumah salah
satu diantaranya. Lalu mereka mengukur tangan-tangan mereka di tembok
untuk mencari tangan mana yang terpanjang. Aktivitas ini sering
dilakukan mereka, sampai meninggalnya Zainab binti Jahsy.

Jakarta is My City
Jakarta, the capital city of the Republic of
Indonesia, is a special territory enjoying the status of a province, consisting of Greater
Jakarta, covering an area of 637.44 square km. Located on the northern coast of West Java,
it is the center of government, commerce and industry and as such has an extensive
communications network with the rest of the country and the outside world. As Indonesia's
main gateway, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport serves a growing number of
international airlines and domestic flights. Jakarta is a city of contrasts; the
traditional and the modern, the rich and the poor, the sacral and the worldly, often stand
side by side in this bustling metropolis. Even its population, gathered from all those
diverse ethnic and cultural groups which compose Indonesia, are constantly juxtaposed as
an ever- present reminder of the national motto; Unity in Diversity.
The name was retained after Indonesia achieved national independence after the war's end.
The ethnic Jakartan called "Orang Betawi" speaks Betawi Malay, spoken as well in the surrounding towns such as Bekasi and Tangerang. This language has two variations: the conventional Betawi Malay and the modern Jakarta Malay. While the first is spoken by the elder people, born and bred in Jakarta, the second is spoken by the younger generation and migrants.
Jakarta's architecture reflects to a large extent the influx of outside influences which came and has remained in this vital seaport city. The Taman Fatahillah Restoration Project, begun in the early 1970s has restored one of the oldest sections of Jakarta also known as Old Batavia to approximately its original state.
Its tower clock was once returned to England to be repaired under its lifetime guarantee, which up to now has already lasted hundreds of years.
One of the most interesting tourist attractions is the "Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park" popularly called "Taman Mini". Built to portray the variety of cultures found within the many islands contained in the Republic of Indonesia, this open-air museum comprises the many architectural forms of arts and traditions of all 27 provinces. It is proof of the country's motto of Unity in Diversity as well as Freedom of Religion depicted in the houses of worship built on the grounds.
Jakarta has preserved its past and is developing for the future. Skyscrapers in the center of the city are part of a new look.
